Climate Change

Research Reports

This report has been specially prepared for Konya Metropolitan Municipality to examine the relationship between climate change, which has recently been affecting the world under many different headings, and sustainable development goals, and to reveal the perspective of local governments on the issue from the perspective of international think tanks.

Details

Climate change is defined as "changes in climate as a result of human activities that directly or indirectly disrupt the composition of the global atmosphere, in addition to natural climate change observed over comparable time periods". It is projected that major migrations will begin due to climate change, that 143 million people will be forced to migrate by 2050 due to climate change alone, and that the impacts will increase exponentially, especially after this date.

The Sustainable Development Goals, declared by the United Nations, are a global call to action to end poverty, protect the environment, address the climate crisis, share prosperity fairly and achieve peace. The goal is to provide a more beautiful and livable world for humanity and future generations. The United Nations has declared climate change as the greatest threat to development, while the World Economic Forum has characterized it as "a serious existential risk for our world".

The report "Climate Change through the Perspective of International Think Tanks" examines topics such as carbon footprint and measurement, mobility and electric vehicles, the climate crisis in sustainable development goals, carbon emissions, energy efficiency, and climate-friendly practices in agriculture. In addition, the relationship between climate change and issues such as trade, human rights, defense industry, and health is also included in the content.

While the main topic of the study is the perspective of international think tanks on climate change studies in local governments, national and international strategic planning activities related to the issue are also included in the last section.
