Research Reports
As Development-Oriented Strategic Research Center (KOSAM), in this report, which we have prepared exclusively for the Konya Chamber of Commerce; it is aimed to analyze the transfer a remarkable part of the values in the manufacturing and industrial sectors in the provinces of Istanbul, Kocaeli and Bursa in the Marmara Industrial Region to the provinces of Aksaray, Ankara, Karaman, Kayseri, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Konya, Nevşehir, Niğde and Yozgat in the Central Anatolia Industrial Region.
In today's global trade conditions where countries are fully interconnected, numerous efforts are being made in the public, civil society and private sectors to increase the strength and resilience of the Republic of Türkiye in the regional and international arena. While the sustainability perspective forms the basis of these studies on Türkiye's growth and development goals, the projects are designed under three key headings: economic, social and environmental. The focus of these studies is commonly on İstanbul, with the gap in its economic and social capital. Even in an assessment published in Arkitera 17 years ago, the city is referred to as a polar head, underlining the fact that the development gap between it and other important settlements has not allowed it to close:
"The excessive growth of the İstanbul metropolis puts its urban sustainability based on natural and economic resources at risk and raises concerns about its ability to compete globally with increasing production and service costs. In a system of competing metropolises, İstanbul needs to address its structural inadequacies, free itself from unnecessary burdens, and reduce its urban costs through decentralization at appropriate scales."
When it comes to protecting against long-term risks and ensuring inclusive and fair living opportunities for all, the repositioning of not only İstanbul but also a remarkable part of the Marmara Industrial Region with its surrounding provinces to Central Anatolia is no longer an idea; it is a primary condition for economic, social and environmental sustainability and economic security. Considering the size, importance and contribution of the Marmara Industrial Region in the Turkish economy today, it is evaluated that any threat that the relevant region may face is also aimed at the economic security of the whole country.
This report, prepared by Development-Oriented Strategic Research Center (KOSAM), aims to analyze the transfer of a significant portion of the values in the manufacturing and industrial sectors in İstanbul, Kocaeli and Bursa in the Marmara Industrial Region to Aksaray, Ankara, Karaman, Kayseri, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Konya, Nevşehir, Niğde and Yozgat in the Central Anatolia Industrial Region.
