This report, specially prepared for Konya Commodity Exchange, summarizes the recent agenda assessments of the world's think tanks on animal husbandry in general and what is expected in the future. In addition, the status of cattle and poultry production, red and white meat production, and the amount of major animal food consumption are evaluated by country. In terms of these parameters, Turkey's current situation in the world and its history of the last 50 years are analyzed.
Think tanks point out that livestock breeding plays a major role in the growing climate crisis in the world and that the increase in the number of livestock causes serious damage to nature. Although some countries have taken steps to suppress animal production, it is seen that there is not enough public opinion in most countries and not enough steps are taken due to the socioeconomic problems that may occur. In the reports, it is mentioned that there should be a transition process to alternative plant and cultivated protein sources instead of animal foods. In this transition process, steps that will not victimize those working in the livestock sector and will not affect the taste of the society are emphasized.
Another issue that think tanks are currently focusing on is organic animal husbandry. Although the demand for organic animal foods has increased in recent years, the problems experienced by organic livestock farmers due to the closure of slaughterhouses in the pandemic, the difficulties in obtaining certified feedstuffs and the legal regulations for organic production were mentioned.
Another issue that think tanks have recently examined is the developments in white meat production and predictions about its future status.
Think tanks have addressed the growth of dairy farming in the US in the last 20 years and the problems faced by the sector. In US dairy cattle farming, it is seen that the capacity of holdings and milk yield per cattle have increased.
