What the World is Talking About

Details

  • The subject that left its mark on our report this term and served as a reference in our cover design is the developments in China. Both its abundant workforce and economic size have made China significant on a global scale. China, which is in constant competition with the US on chips, has provided a significant fund flow of 5.4 billion dollars to some active chip manufacturers. While China continues to exhibit a positive outlook regarding the dynamics and volume of its foreign trade, according to the latest data, the country's import, and export volume for the first ten months showed a year-on-year increase of 0.03% (34.32 trillion yuan).

  • The fourth Turkey-Africa Business and Economy Forum (TABEF) was held in Istanbul. More than 1,700 business people from Africa, 24 Ministers of Trade, 19 Chamber of Commerce Presidents, and over 3,000 representatives from the private sector attended. The economic and political collaborations that our country has developed with the African continent continue to mutually benefit both parties.

  • After Israel initiated a ground offensive and attacks in Palestine, articles have begun to be published regarding the current economic and social situation in the region. Economically, Gaza, which has had a volatile economic outlook due to intermittent conflicts for years, has come to a halt in many areas after the recent attacks. In the region where social life has been significantly disrupted, it is estimated that more than 44,000 homes have been destroyed, and over 132,000 homes have been partially demolished. With the destruction of 150 factories, 120 schools, and numerous public buildings, life in the region is at a standstill.

  • The decision taken by the Pakistani government on October 3rd to deport millions of Afghan migrants in the country has come under the radar of global think tanks. According to the plan, millions of Afghans currently residing in Pakistan were asked to leave the country starting on November 1st. Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, it is noted that 600,000 Afghans have gone to Pakistan, and approximately 3–4 million Afghans have migrated to Pakistan throughout the entire process.

  • Ongoing conflicts between Hamas and Israel not only impact the Middle East but also have diplomatic implications for Asian countries. China's Belt and Road Initiative, initiated about a decade ago, has increased China's influence in the Middle East. While China has maintained a balanced policy with regional actors for a long time, the dynamics it has established in the region are gradually diminishing due to the ongoing conflict. In the continued conflict between Israel and Palestine, China tends to align more with Palestine. The fact that China does not consider Hamas a terrorist group, unlike many European countries, serves as a notable example.

  • The issue of poverty and destitution, which has been brought up at various times in the United Kingdom, has once again come to the forefront during this period. The latest data revealed an alarming situation in the United Kingdom. The number of people seeking food aid is increasing day by day, and the rates of homelessness and poverty are on the rise. According to some organizations, the rate of emergency food aid distribution has increased by 16% compared to the previous year and by 116% compared to five years ago. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation predicts that approximately 3.8 million people will be exposed to poverty.
