Today, various factors such as population growth, food security, urbanisation, climate change, environmental pollution, and labour shortages are driving changes and innovations in agricultural production methods, as well as in other sectors. Furthermore, advancements in electronic, information, and communication technologies are accelerating these innovations. Smart Agriculture technologies, also known as Precision Agriculture, Digital Agriculture, or Agriculture 4.0, are among these innovations. Smart agriculture aims to address various challenges in crop and animal production by utilising new digital technology products while promoting sustainability and environmental protection. It achieves savings in agricultural inputs without compromising yield through the use of technologies such as electric tractors, robotic and autonomous systems, automatic steering, Agricultural Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and variable level agricultural input application. Additionally, it helps to reduce damage to the environment and natural resources.

The aim of this report is to update on the scope, current status, potential benefits, current policies, and future prospects of smart agriculture. The report comprises four chapters. The first chapter examines the scope of smart and precision agriculture, the technologies involved, the factors that make these technologies necessary, and their historical development. The second part discusses the benefits of smart agriculture, while the third part examines the current status of smart agriculture in the world and in Turkey, relevant national and international policies, and the risks and expectations for the future. The fourth and final section summarizes the findings and presents recommendations.

Think tanks and research organizations play a crucial role in shaping national and international policies. They provide essential information and analysis for countries, contributing to justice, development, and progress. The publications produced by these organizations are highly regarded by country leaders and lawmakers. Therefore, the publications of think tanks and research organizations were given priority in the preparation of this report.
