In our study, we examine examples from Europe—Debrecen (Hungary), which has achieved successful transformation despite being located in a landlocked region—as well as Daegu (South Korea) and Pune (India) from Asia, and Detroit (U.S.) from North America as a risk scenario; and we present concrete policy recommendations for Konya based on these cities’ experiences in areas such as industrial clustering, branding, the technology-based service economy, and water management.
In our report titled “A Socioeconomic Portrait of Konya: A Comparative Analysis with Four Cities Across Three Continents,” we examine the opportunities and threats faced by inland cities as production geographies in the global economy are being reshaped; We evaluate Konya’s strong agricultural infrastructure, industrial diversity, and skilled workforce—along with structural vulnerabilities such as distance from a port and water stress—through a holistic approach.

The report’s key message is that Konya’s future depends more on the quality of production than on its quantity, and that the transition from a low-tech, production-intensive economy to a knowledge- and technology-based, high-value-added economy will only be possible through initiatives such as proactive investment offices, sector-specific clusters, university-industry partnerships, and smart water management.
In summary, our report serves as a strategic roadmap—covering the short, medium, and long term—for Konya’s transformation into a sustainable and livable city with a thriving economy.
