Our study prioritizes Konya’s 31 districts based on population density, the presence of organized industrial zones (OIZs), and sectoral specialization, and proposes a railway backbone encompassing the central districts as well as production hubs such as Akşehir, Ereğli, Karapınar, Beyşehir, and Seydişehir. By integrating radial and circular railway network models, the study aims to balance freight flows, reduce logistical pressure in the city center, and enable Konya to become directly integrated into the Development Road.
Our report, titled “Konya Integrated with Railways: Building Economic Transformation through the Development Road and Inter-District Connections,” places the International Development Road Project, which is expected to shape Türkiye’s logistics future, at the center of its analysis. The report reconfigures Konya’s existing railway infrastructure at the district level and aims to transform the city from merely a production hub into a regional logistics transshipment center.

The report’s key finding is that Konya has the capacity to establish a strong railway backbone, but this potential is not being utilized effectively. With the implementation of the proposed models, it would be possible to shift heavy freight transportation from road to rail, reduce logistics costs, and ensure that export-oriented production reaches ports more rapidly and sustainably. In this way, Konya would not only accelerate its socioeconomic development but also make a strategic contribution to Türkiye’s logistics competitiveness in global trade.
