Research Reports

Our study centers on the profound transformation in perceptions of health brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and defines longevity not merely as delaying biological aging, but as a quality-of-life approach that holistically encompasses physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. We evaluate Konya’s thermal resources, cost-effective healthcare services, rich gastronomic culture, diverse range of herbal products, and a peaceful and spirituality-oriented approach to life rooted in the philosophy of Mevlâna as the fundamental building blocks of a distinctive “Longevity Tourism City Model.”

Our report, titled “New Horizons in Tourism: Konya’s Longevity-Based Health Tourism Potential,” centers on the profound transformation in perceptions of health brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. It defines longevity not as merely delaying biological aging, but as a quality-of-life approach encompassing physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being, and analyzes its implications specifically for Konya.

The “silver economy” opportunities emerging from the historically unprecedented increase in global life expectancy, along with the need to transition from the concept of aging societies to a vision of longevity-oriented societies, have become increasingly important. We evaluate Konya’s thermal resources, cost-effective healthcare services, rich gastronomic culture, diverse range of herbal products, and peaceful and spirituality-oriented approach to life rooted in the philosophy of Mevlâna as the fundamental building blocks of a distinctive “Longevity Tourism City Model.”

The report identifies Konya’s advantages and limitations through comparisons with successful longevity practices around the world as well as national and international benchmarks. It proposes an integrated service ecosystem that brings together preventive healthcare, functional medicine, anti-aging practices, and sustainable living models, while also presenting concrete implementation steps and policy recommendations supported by a multi-stakeholder governance model involving local governments, central government, universities, and civil society.

Ultimately, our report outlines a strategic roadmap to support Konya’s vision of becoming Türkiye’s first “Longevity City,” positioning health tourism not merely as an economic activity, but also as a transformative instrument for simultaneously strengthening urban quality of life, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
